The Lanterman Act is California’s civil rights program for persons with intellectual and developmental
disabilities (I/DD) and creates our Regional Center system which assesses and fulfills essential services
necessary to live in the community. This session will introduce attendees to a series of MCLE programs
and resources created by the Arc of California with the assistance of the Golden State Pooled Trust to
assist families, fiduciaries, attorneys and advocates to the Lanterman Act, the Individual Program Plan
(IPP), and advocacy programs. Central to the Keep the Lanterman Promise program are a series of free
online MCLE trainings to provide a foundation of knowledge that all fiduciaries and attorneys when
serving the needs of persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities in California. This
presentation will be co-presented by Teresa Anderson JD, policy director of the Arc of California who will
share with attendees the challenges that persons with I/DD face, and what is necessary to continue the
Lanterman entitlement. This presentation will feature key segments from the KTLP online webinar series
and suggest how private fiduciaries can not only benefit from taking the courses, but how segments
from the series can assist the private fiduciary to serve as a resource for beneficiaries and families they
serve to effectively advocate for essential community services.
